About Me
Hello,
My name is Ken J. Brown and my wife, Laurice, and I were married in January of 1987. We live in La Crescenta about five miles North of Glendale, California and about ten miles North of Los Angeles. Our house is a total beater so I’m always working around the house trying to fix or upgrade something or another.
We own two beautiful Vizsla dogs named Elliott and Szuka. Visit Elliott and Szukas web site here.
I was born in Burbank, California, lived there through elementary school, then when my mother re-married we moved to Glendale/Montrose for Junior High and High school. I had an older brother, Alan, and an I have an older sister, Susan. When my parents split up, my mother send my sister and I to upstate New York to stay with our grand-parents during the summer.
Work
I’m a computer Systems Administrator at a manufacturing company named
Avibank Mfg., Inc.
in North Hollywood, California.
I also spend some time at AVK Industrial Products> in Valencia, CA.
I do the companies internal Intranet and I do AVK's external web site.
I also supervise our programmers / computer specialists in the Information
Technology (computer) department.
I’ve been working in the IT department since November of 1988 but
I’ve worked for Avibank since March of 1983.
Avibank was aquired by a “Larger Fish” named SPS Technologies in March of 2000 and SPS Technologies was purchased by a “Even Larger Fish” named Precision Castparts Corp. in August of 2003. We are a Fortune 500 company
Sometimes I think that work is just the necessary evil so that one can afford to spend the time to pursue one’s hobbies.
Hobbies
I enjoy playing disc golf,
playing darts, watching hockey &
football games, camping, target shooting and almost anything firearm related, listening to good music,
eating good food, drinking good wine and smoking a good cigar every now and then.
I dig futuristic / sci-fi movies, TV shows, & books.
I like growing and caring for plants, you know, gardening and landscaping & stuff.
Laurice and I were into Cowboy Action Shooting. for a while and we both joined SASS (Single Action Shooting Society). My alias is “Ransom Badger” and Laurice’s alias is “Quicksilver Girl”. We’re currrenly shooting an AWA (American Western Arms) “Longhorn” and a Colt both blued, in 45colt and with 5 1/2 inch barrels, a Stoeger Coachgun in 12 gauge and a Marlin 1984 CBC in 45colt. I have a Dillon Precision progressive reloading bench and I’m built a gun cart for going to shoots with.
Yes, of course, I enjoy working with and learning about computers, building web site and working with graphics. I used to enjoy playing online games like Team Fortress Classic, Counter-Strike, Quake3Arena, etc… My screen name is ZuTe.
Our biggest hobbie is, of course, our dogs.
Music / Band
I got into playing music when I was about 16. My brother used to roadie for local bands in Hollywood and sometimes he’d take me with him. I bought my first bass guitar when I was 16 and played my first party at 17. I’ve played many different types of music, from punk to heavy metal to pop / new wave. I’ve played at many of the Hollywood clubs and enjoyed the “scene” when I was into it. I haven’t played in a band now for a long time now and sometimes I miss it. Currently my favorite type of music is heavy metal, although I enjoy classical music as well and will listen to almost anything. Music in general has always been a pretty big part of my life.
